Land Rover was once known as the manufacturer of vehicles for hardcore adventurers that needed a set of wheels that would climb them up steep hills or through forest trails. Now it’s known for making pampered, yet highly capable, vehicles that mostly sit in mall parking lots outside of upscale stores. For that reason it shouldn’t come as that big of a surprise that Land Rover is now going to produce a convertible for their fans. No, they aren’t creating a brand new sporty sedan and completely tarnishing their rugged image, but instead modifying the Land Rover Evoque to offer a convertible SUV. That might seem like a ridiculous idea at first glance, but when you take a look at a picture of the vehicle it makes quite a bit more sense.
The Evoque convertible is actually pretty stylish, even with the ugly camo paint job that it’s being demonstrated with. Sure it looks a bit bulky, but that’s the cool thing about it. Unlike most convertibles, this one can still handle camping trips, can travel through puddles up to 20 inches deep and offers enough storage space for most day-to-day needs. It’s an attractive little convertible that still holds onto enough of Land Rover’s capability to avoid wrecking the image.
Evoque is a Cash Cow
Most Land Rover purists hate, or at least dislike the Evoque for watering down the brand and offering a weaker and more mainstream vehicle than the much more rugged SUVs that they are known for. Even though so many purists are against the Evoque you can’t deny that it’s a cash cow for Land Rover. More than 12,000 Evoques were sold in the US last year, close to a quarter of all the sales the brand had, and for that reason the pint-sized SUV is here to stay.
The Only SUV Convertible
Aside from Jeep models the Evoque will be the only SUV convertible available on the market, and that means they are wide open to scoop up all those sales. The convertible will probably be a bit bottom heavy, which will give it different handling characteristics, but the prototype looks to be pretty darn attractive, and I have no doubt that the models offered in a color scheme other than camo will look even better.
There’s plenty of people who hate the idea of an Evoque, and even more who think a convertible variation is ridiculous, but once Land Rover finishes their new creation there’s no doubt that it will help bring in a bit more money.
When the U.S. News & World Report Best Cars for Families are chosen, the judges are looking for vehicles that are going to offer a high level of reliability, comfort and the level of performance that families want and need to get through standard use. While looking through vehicle the Range Rover Sport was chosen as the 2015 Best Luxury 3-Row SUV for Families thanks to its unique blend of top level luxury with family-friendly features.
19 different category leaders are selected providing the ideal family vehicle of each standard type out on the road. In order to get a real feel for the vehicles that judges are looking at, a blend of professional auto reviews, safety and reliability ratings as well as an actual measure of interior space and finally the family-oriented features that are available in each vehicle. When all of these different factors are taken into account a winner is selected.
What The Judges Liked about the Range Rover
When judges looked over the Range Rover Sport they were surprised to see all the family-friendly features in the vehicle. It comes with an advanced media system for entertainment, and a spacious interior with comfortable seating for up to seven people. The vehicle is equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control a rearview camera and a navigation system. The vehicle comes with an eight-speaker sound system so everyone can hear the music, even at the back. The SUV is designed to handle rough terrain, and smoothly glides over standard roads. Its such a capable vehicle that’s favored by off-road enthusiasts, but also makes an excellent upscale option for families who value comfort.
The Range Rover Sport benefits from many of the same all-terrain capabilities that the Land Rover is known for, but it comes with a sportier stance that handles very smoothly while out on the road as well. The 5+2 seating is room enough for most families, and offers plenty of cargo room when it isn’t in use.
For these reasons the Range Rover Sport was chosen as the best luxury family option with three seats of space. It’s not the most affordable family-friendly option that you could choose, but it is one of the best luxury values if you really want to spoil your family. If you want a highly-capable ride that you can take with you on camping trips or to go pick up a full load of groceries comfortably the Range Rover is a good bet. It’s not the most practical option, but it has an enticing blend of luxury and enjoyable features that will make any family feel pampered.
Vehicles of all types make noises all the time while travelling down the road. Most people consider these noises to be nothing more than a nuisance, but car enthusiasts know differently. They can see the beauty in the purr of a performance engine as it sprints around a tight turn, or the note of exhaust ejected from the vehicle. The professionals at Infiniti Middle East happen to side with the enthusiasts, and they worked with Betamax to put together an audio soundtrack known as “Chromatic” that showcases all the wonderful sounds made by their vehicles.
This is what Betamax, a well-known global producer, had to say about the project. “When the idea was first brought to me, I was excited” but “it was definitely going to be a challenge.” He goes on to talk about his love for music and cars and how blending the two together with one of the industries most competent automakers was a chance to challenge himself creatively. The end-result is decidedly impressive.
The soundtrack sounds like an interesting blend between techno and elevator music, and it has a decidedly upbeat tone to it. The surprising thing about this track is that every sound and note within came from one of the Infiniti model lineup. Notes were taken from a set of vehicles and then put together to make a unique form of music, for nothing more than artistic expression. If you’re interested in hearing the sound you can get a taste of it by listening to the video below. It’s surprisingly enjoyable and will make you look at the Infiniti vehicles and the sounds they produce in a whole new way.
Vehicles Used to Make the Album
Four different model vehicles were used in the creation of this performance. The QX80, QX70, QX60 and the Q50 sedan were all utilized for their unique sounds. These models were also used for their visual style characteristics and play a major role in the production of the video.
When you watch the video produced by Infiniti one of the first things you’ll notice is all of the interesting visuals going on. These were all created by Misha Shyukin, a talented animator and videographer, who was charged with taking design elements from each of the Infiniti models and infusing them with a middle eastern arabesque flare to create a new look and feel. More than 150 different designs are featured throughout the video, and each was developed using the Infiniti vehicles as the base to build off of.
The overall project took eight months to complete and the above video is the result. It shows that even the sporty cars produced at Infiniti can produce musical notes, and when all their sounds are harnessed properly they can be pretty impressive to listen to.
Jaguar Land Rover is planning on producing an electric vehicle in the next couple years, but word is that they aren’t sure whether it will be badged as a Land Rover or a Jaguar vehicle. Either way the vehicle is expected to be a large SUV with enough space for a larger battery pack and a more robust electric power system.
Building on the F-Pace Framework
If the electric vehicle ends up being a Jaguar model it’s likely that it will be based on the F-Pace framework that hasn’t yet been released. If the vehicle is built on top of this framework then it’s likely it will have a performance slant that makes the vehicle more suited to track use than off-roading. Either way the electric model could be something very exciting and not just Jaguar fans will be lining up to take it for a spin.
The Defender Experiment
Jaguar isn’t new to electric vehicles and they actually released an electric experiment known as the Defender just two short years ago. This boxy SUV was built with a 94 HP engine that produced a pretty sizeable 243 lb.-ft. of torque. Just seven of these vehicles were ever constructed and word is that they performed pretty well too. If the information is true the Defender was able to handle all the rough terrain that the standard diesel-powered system could.
Releasing An Electric Model in Two Years
The new battery-powered vehicle from Jaguar Land Rover isn’t expected to be released until 2018, and a plug-in hybrid should be put out first in 2017. The actual release date depends on how long the hybrid takes to be completed and how well it does once it actually debuts.
If everything goes according to plan, and the rumors are true then there should be an all-electric SUV released around the globe with either a Jaguar or Land Rover badge attached. It’s likely to be a very rugged vehicle that will be at home on dirt roads, but there’s always the possibility that the vehicle will be designed with performance in mind more than ruggedness. Either way, if the vehicle does well there will likely be a whole slew of all-electric models in the works.
Cadillac recently released the 2015 version of their Escalade and it packs even more features and luxury while maintaining the style and comfort that buyers have grown to love and respect over the years. It’s certainly not any more affordable than previous models are, but for the buyers looking to splurge on their transportation and spoil themselves each time they walk out the door, the newest Caddy has a lot to offer.
Power and Performance
When you ride in a vehicle as large as the 2015 Escalade you don’t expect it to feel sporty or light on its feet, and that’s certainly the case with this model, but it doesn’t feel sluggish either. Instead it offers a very smooth ride, with satisfyingly responsive acceleration that you can benefit from immediately. The Cadillac is slightly more efficient than older models with 15 MPG in the city and 21 on the highway, but still remains more focused on performance and luxury than it is on fuel efficiency. It offers a silky smooth ride that easily absorbs most bumps and muffles out any road noise helping you forget that you’re out on the road at all and making it feel more like a moving five star hotel.
An Opulent Exterior
It’s easy to spot an Escalade rolling down the road thanks to its large and opulent look. The latest version is covered with a plethora of chrome accents, and a massive grille that stands out against the darker paint job. It has a distinctly squared-off look and overall looks more masculine than previous versions do. The Escalade comes with LED headlamps, and 20 inch chrome wheels that fit in very well with this classy Caddy.
A Plethora of Features
One of the nicest things about the 2015 Cadillac Escalade is all of the tech and comfort features that come standard with your purchase. Sure the Escalade is very price with a base price of nearly $90,000, but there’s something nice about getting most of the luxury features that you want right with the initial package.
As you’re travelling down the road you’ll enjoy the auto wipers and the tri-zone automatic climate control system that help you remain comfortable no matter what the outside conditions are like. The auto-dimming mirrors improve visibility on very sunny days and the keyless entry and ignition are convenient features to have.
You’ll enjoy the heated and ventilated power-adjustable steering wheel on both hot and cool days, and the seats provide the same heating and ventilation while being eight-way adjustable so you can feel comfortable and sit at your preferred angle. One feature that’s almost unique in vehicles is the power adjustable pedals that help the Escalade to fit to different sized drivers and their preferences.
On top of all these convenience features you also get a very competent CUE infotainment system, that comes with a responsive touchscreen interface. The system provides navigation and comes with a rearview camera built in as well. You can enjoy your music on quality 16 speaker surround system system, and with five different USB ports all your family’s electronics will stay topped up.
When you climb inside the new Escalade you’re immediately enveloped in luxury. The buttery smooth silks and soft-touch materials abound and leave you feeling pampered. The Escalade has a clean layout that makes it simple to understand and easy to use, and the vehicle’s large enough to sit three rows of people comfortably, or to do a lot of hauling. With all the seats in place there is still 15.2 cubic feet of storage at the back, and when you pop out the second and third row seating that number jumps up to 94.2 cubic feet, enough space to carry about 20 large boxes, or some new furniture to match your new vehicle!
The Escalade was built for hauling people, and is often used to carry around children which means that safety is of the utmost importance. Not only does the large size of the vehicle add to the safety factor, but it also comes with a whole range of nice safety features to help keep everyone safe. It has a brand-new center-front seat airbag for the passenger that gets stuck between in the middle up front. It also comes with front and rear parking sensors, anti-lock disc brakes and both traction and stability control for most of the standard features.
The Escalade also has some advanced features such as Forward Collision Alert and a Safety Alert System to help make the driver aware of any possible risks while out on the road.
If you’re after the absolute best family SUV that you can get your hands on, and aren’t afraid to spend two or three times what a budget SUV goes for, the 2015 Escalade offers a lot to love and is a satisfyingly comfortable ride.
While support for fully electronic vehicles is growing over time, there are plenty of people who are either afraid of the idea, or simply don’t want to drive around vehicles that rely solely on electricity. After all they are a bit less practical than many gasoline or diesel powered vehicles at the moment. Many people are really excited about the Tesla Model 3 because it will make owning a reliable electric vehicle more affordable, but for those who aren’t the 2017 Jaguar XE presents a surprisingly enticing alternative.
The XE is the smallest vehicle that the Jaguar is currently working on and it promises to be both affordable (relatively speaking for a luxury car) and efficient. This little car will be equipped with a 2.0 liter turbodiesel engine that’s capable of achieving fuel efficiency levels in the high 30’s or low 40’s. This is something that most people can get excited about, and the car doesn’t force anyone to move over to the unchartered territories of electric cars.
A Luxurious Look
The 2017 Jaguar XE is going to be very luxurious and sporty looking and will come with most of the features and comforts that are expected in a luxury car, but will still be pretty affordable and very efficient.
One area where Jaguar vehicles tend to shine is with their handling capabilities. Jags are very responsive and fun to drive, and the XE is no different according to early reviews completed by Car and Driver. The reviewer states that the XE possess “the reflexes and grace that are conspicuously absent in the competition” or the other small sports cars on the market. Not only will the little XE be a great little car to drive from an efficiency perspective and thanks to its looks, but it will be a blast to drive as well.
An Aluminum Body
One of the main ways that the XE is going to be able to achieve such impressive efficiency numbers while maintaining a good level of power is through a lightweight aluminum body. It will be one of the few cars out on the road that rely on an almost fully-aluminum structure for the body. Sure it will rely on steel for things like the door, and strength enhancing accents around the vehicle, but by and large it will be made of aluminum and that means a much lower body weight overall than similar sized steel vehicles.
All these features make the XE a great competitor for the Tesla Model 3 and it should attract all the buyers who aren’t ready to move over to electric technology yet. Diesel still represents a cleaner alternative than gasoline, especially with biodiesels on the market, but it’s much more familiar than electric cars and packaged so nicely that it’s going to be hard to pass up by many buyers looking for a compact sports car to cruise around in.
Jaguar recently showed off its new technology known as “Bike Sense”. It’s a warning system that is designed to help drivers be more aware of their surroundings and potentially protect bikers who are on the road. The system relies on a variety of different warning mechanisms to make drivers more aware, and to overcome many of the issues that put bike riders at risk while out on the road.
Getting the Drivers Attention
In order to make sure the driver is aware of the problem that the system detects he is hit in three different senses. He will hear the sound of a bicycle bell, see red and yellow LED flashes and feel a vibration on the shoulder. These three systems come together to ensure that every Land Rover driver is well aware of his or her surroundings while travelling out on the road.
Providing Specific Feedback
Getting the driver’s attention isn’t enough to provide a safe driving environment. The system also has to let the driver know what the problem is and where it is as fast as possible. The LED’s used to provide a signal are in green, yellow and red. The color lets the driver know how close the issue is to the vehicle. The shoulder tap comes from within the driver’s seat, and it can occur on either the right or the left depending on where the problem is. These two systems effectively let the driver know how close the threat is and which side of the vehicle it’s on in a matter of moments. This lets the driver react instinctively and should help create a safer driving environment.
Jaguar’s Bike Sense system is just one of the latest safety technologies that they’ve been showing off recently. They have also been developing a holographic windshield that shows off driving directions and a special system that makes vehicle pillars effectively see-through to prevent blind spots. Jaguar hasn’t spoken about whether or not they plan on implementing these systems anytime soon, or at all for that matter, but it’s clear that safety matters a lot to them. While introducing this technology in the small lineup of vehicles that Jaguar sells won’t make a huge difference overall, if it leads to major trends in the industry it could make a real difference. The new technology makes vehicle drivers more responsible for accidents that occur between them and cyclists, and that’s a good thing for bike riders.
Most people, including me, assume that snow-covered roads are no place for a sports car. While that may be the case for some vehicles, the rear-wheel drive 2015 Jaguar F-Type is putting that myth to rest a bit. Journalists from NY Daily News took out the F-Type for a three-day trip around the northeast, and what they expected to be a unnerving trip was actually very relaxing and more than enough to impress them.
The F-Type Outfitted for Snow
To be fair the journalists weren’t operating a standard F-Type straight out of the factory. The car received a single modification, a pair of Blizzak snow tires. The tires are designed to be more pliable in cold temperatures and has deeper more aggressive tread for biting into snowy roadways effectively. This slight change was all that was needed to prepare this stunning sports car to charge down snowy back roads, that even some SUVs would be intimidated by.
How it Handles Snow
The journalists describe hitting their first powdery roadways as an unnerving experience, and they had momentary regrets, but once on the powder they realized just how capable the F-Type is. Once the dynamic drive is set to “Snow” the vehicle adjusts throttle and braking characteristics to help provide solid performance on roads that provide minimal traction. Overall the experience was described as uneventful. There were a few handling differences in snowy conditions, but they were minimal. Braking is dampened a bit, making it vital to start slowing down earlier. Steering is dulled a bit as well and more gradual cornering is necessary, but only to a slight degree.
What’s most surprising about the trip is that the 2015 Jaguar F-Type seems just as capable as most all-wheel drive sedans and SUVs in the snow. Maybe the credit should go to the Blizzak winter tires, but northern buyers should be aware of the fact that they don’t necessarily have to garage their little beauty all winter, but instead can bring it out to play with confidence.
Jaguar has confirmed that much of their F-Type lineup will also be available with all-wheel drive in the future. That modification promises even more sure-footed handling than the rear-wheel drive vehicle has, but surprisingly it isn’t necessary. Northern drivers who plan to operate the vehicle in the snow on a yearly basis would probably want to spring for the upgrade, but for the occasional drive in the snow the rear-wheel setup is more than enough.
With 380 HP on tap and its lightweight and aerodynamic body the F-Type is still a sports car at heart, but it’s not as limited as most people would assume. The vehicle is just as capable as most sedans and even many of the trucks and SUVs when it comes to inclimate weather, and that sells us on it even more than it’s sexy lines and curvy appeal.
Jaguar’s been in business since 1922 and over all that time they’ve built countless vehicles but never ventured into the world of the SUV, until now that is. For the first time the automaker is developing an SUV for their customers, and this has some experts asking if the move will cannibalize their sales from partner company Land Rover.
No Need to Worry About Losing Customers
According to careful research conducted by the Tata Group of India, the owner of Jaguar and Land Rover, not only will the new Jag SUV not steal customers form Land Rover, but most of the sales that this vehicle is capable of making will result from stealing customers away from competitors instead. This is essentially free money for the company and they are probably kicking themselves for not making the move sooner, or at least they will be if they pull it off successfully.
The reason that Jaguar and Land Rover won’t compete with one another with this new SUV is because they cater to very different customer bases. The Land Rover is known for being one of the most rugged vehicles out there, and outdoorsy types love to pick them up. The Jaguar SUV won’t be built for off-roading and will be nabbed by city-dwellers interested in a more family-friendly form of sporty, luxurious transportation.
Offers Classy Styling and Expected to Be Powerful
If the F-PACE looks anything like the C-X17 concept vehicle it’s based on it will be quite a classy looking ride. The concept crossover is streamlined and features a color that pops. The F-PACE is likely to follow a similar design scheme, creating a very fast looking SUV that’s lightweight and fun to drive. Drivers will want something that’s clearly a Jaguar, while offering more space than the typical vehicle does. This is likely what Jaguar is going to shoot for with their production.
Of course the interior of the Jaguar is going to be luxuriously appointed. It will likely have leather or a very high quality suede material used for upholstery. The C-X17 concept shows off a futuristic interior with touchscreen controls, a massive control knob and plenty of LEDs to light up the interior, but with as many features as there are packed into the cab it still manages to look very streamlined and clear like most Jag interiors and that’s a trend that I’m sure they will continue to build on.
No word about the power source has been released yet, but we expect it to include the 3.0 liter supercharged V6 that was received so well in the flagship XJL sedan. The engine produces 340 HP and delivers it in such a smooth and snappy way that it can’t help but being fun to operate.
The F-PACE is expected to go on sale in 2016 and more information is likely to be released throughout 2015 as Jaguar continues development on their first SUV. It’s an exciting concept and should be something worth looking forward to.
In just a few short weeks Cadillac fans will have the opportunity to set their eyes upon the most powerful production vehicle to date, produced by the automaker. The all-new Cadillac CTS-V. This little powerhouse represents the pinnacle of Cadillac production to date, and is the track version of Cadillac’s highly-coveted CTS model. The vehicle is set to be unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, that takes place between the 17th and 25th of January.
About the 2016 CTS-V
The CTS-V is known as the most powerful production car that Cadillac has ever built. It will come equipped with a 6.2 liter V-8 that produces a massive 640 horsepower and manages to keep torque figures up to an impressive 630 lb.-ft.
The car will travel from 0 to 60 in just 3.7 seconds, and can travel at up to 200 miles per hour, a speed that beats out many of its German competitors easily. The 2016 CTS-V is at the top level of auto production and should be able to keep up with many of the top tier automakers while surpassing many of them. This version of the CTS-V is expected to be about 135 pounds lighter than the previous model, while offering close to 100 HP more to the buyer. That should result in noticeable performance improvements to the one behind the wheel.
On top of the improved power, the latest version of the CTS-V also comes with a bigger grille as well as a heightened hood vent to bring in additional cool air to help keep the engine cooled and provide air to that meaty supercharger.
This four door luxury sedan will provide enough space for four people to sit comfortably. It comes with a range of different options and is expected to start around $75,000 making it a pretty affordable luxury sedan for the well-off looking for the best car to ride around in. It brings both style and speed together, creating a very compelling vehicle overall.
Cadillac is working very hard to begin producing top-level luxury vehicles that rival some of the best in the industry, and the V-series cars should help them along the way. Each of these track-ready versions of well-known Caddys have a lot more bite than you would expect, and know how to keep up with some of the best vehicles in the industry.
