It’s hard to forget about your first time behind the wheel of a vehicle. It doesn’t matter if you were driving around a local department store parking lot, down backroads out in the country or something a bit more illegal. That’s what Jaguar is counting on with its latest initiative and it’s working to help prepare children for safe driving practices while getting its brand out there a bit more as well. They’re doing this by letting children as young as 11 take The Jaguar XE for a spin, that’s right, your 11 year old can drive a Jag, as long as he happens to live in the UK.
What They are Doing
Jaguar is going around to six different locations around the UK and making the XE available to children between 11 and 17 who want to learn more about safe driving first hand. Of course each of these children will have to operate the vehicle on a closed track, but that shouldn’t bring the experience down for them at all.
The events are supposed to put children into experiences that simulate real-life road experiences. Of course the child isn’t going to be allowed full control over the vehicle, there is going to be a check in place to help make the whole thing a bit safer. A government-approved instructor will be sitting alongside the child and will have his hands on a set of dual controls to take over just in case. While it sounds like Jaguar is actually taking control away from children, in reality the dual control setup gives them more freedom. They’ll be able to act as the sole driver while going through the course and they won’t have an adult hovering over top of the controls waiting for something to happen.
Jaguar is going to be using the Jaguar XE 2.0 liter four-cylinder diesel vehicle for the project. The car packs a very healthy 180 HP and should be more than enough power to be a fun experience for the children.
This safety event is an excellent promotional effort made by Jaguar. Not only will the company get its name out there for helping to improve road safety, but it also gets it’s new XE out in the media more and helps acquaint children, potential consumers of the future, with the Jaguar brand and firmly plants itself into the memory of all those children taking a car for a spin for the very first time. It’s a brilliant move by the company and a pretty cool event for all those children who will get to experience driving for the first time.
Well the figures are finally out about the all-new Jaguar XE S and the numbers are pretty impressive to say the least. Not only is the level of power increased in the latest version of the vehicle, but the suspension system has been dramatically improved for a more comfortable and responsive ride. There are also some pretty clear styling adjustments that were made to the vehicle, but the performance and handling alterations are why most people will be upgrading to this model.
A Powerful Engine
The all-new Jaguar XE S is getting a powerful 3.0 liter twin-turbo V6 engine. This impressive setup produces around 362 HP and a potent 383 lb.-ft. of torque. that’s a whole lot of power to be packed into a vehicle this size. Slam down on the gas and you’ll peel off into the distance with smooth precision, just as it should be in a classy Jag like this. The engine is tied to a smooth and cooperative eight speed automatic transmission that switches between the gears effortlessly as you climb up to peak speed, which won’t take much time at all since 0 to 62 takes just 5.1 seconds if the rumors are true.
An Improved Ride Quality
Jaguar worked hard to enhance the ride quality of one of its top vehicle even further. The automaker relied on a high amount of aluminum in the construction of the frame and body of the vehicle. It makes use of double wishbones at both the rear and front of the vehicle and has a multi-link at the rear of the vehicle as well for a very complex system overall. To top it all off, this model will feature the S Adaptive Sports Suspension that gives the driver control over how the vehicle feels and handles.
This new vehicle will come in at around $104,200, making it far from a bargain vehicle, even by luxury standards, but that tag could be worth it if the changes feel as good as they look like they will. Once it’s out for testing purposes real acceleration figures will be readily available and everyone will know whether the 2016 Jaguar XE S lives up to its hype or not.
The 2017 Jaguar XE is a cool looking car no matter how you look at it. It’s got the standard sedan look with a touch of muscle and a dose of class. It’s the type of refinement that big spenders are happy to have, but it’s not quite as flashy as some other models like the F-Type. One pretty unique feature with the 2017 Jaguar XE is the two different engine options it comes with. They’re at odds with one another. One is for power and performance, and the other is focused purely on fuel efficiency. That means if you pick up the 2017 XE you can decide to have something efficient, or something high powered and thrilling to drive.
The Fuel Efficient Choice
Most Americans have begun to realize just how efficient and reliable modern diesel engines can be. The efficient option offered with the 2017 XE is a 4-cylinder turbo diesel, and it puts out a decent 180 HP and 318 lb.-ft. of torque. The car climbs from 0 to 60 in 7.4 seconds, so it probably won’t be winning any street races anytime soon, but it’s not slow either. The key element of this vehicle is that it’s fuel efficient. Specific FDA fuel efficiency numbers aren’t’ available yet, but it’s the most efficient powertrain that Jaguar has ever offered in the states.
The Performance Option
If you’re like many Jaguar buyers who aren’t too concerned with fuel efficiency you can opt for a more powerful engine that has quite a bit more bite. The XE is also offered with the same engine that comes in the F-Type. The 3.0 liter supercharged V6. It provides a massive 340 HP and 334 lb.-ft. of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 60 in just 4.9 seconds and hits a limited top speed of 155 MPH. The XE 35t engine is clearly the more exciting option, but it won’t be nearly as fuel efficient and probably not as practical as an everyday driver either.
Both engine options that are offered with the 2017 Jaguar XE are compelling and special in their own way. The diesel engine would be a pretty good everyday driver and great for efficient highway cruising. The powerful supercharged V6 will be a blast to drive around and give the XE that true sports car feel.
